Knee pain is a common complaint that affects people of all ages. Knee pain may be the result of an injury, such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage. Medical conditions including arthritis, gout and infections also can cause knee pain.
Many types of minor knee pain respond well to self-care measures. Yoga therapy can help relieve knee pain. This is one of the therapeutic series focusing on the knees.
Begin with strengthening the inner and outer knee muscles with resistance. Then lift and tense the leg up one by one to strengthen the thigh, the knee and the hamstrings. After several strengthening exercises, one leg is lifted and squared to stretch the iliotibial band.
